A contrapuntal structure (one part enters at a time).
Subject
The main theme of a fugue or sonata form.
Answer (in fugue)
The subject aa 4th / 5th higher or lower then the subject.
Countersubject
Melody to fit with the subject.
Stretto
Entries of subject - close succession.
Modulation
Moving to a new key
Passing modulation
Briefly passing through another key
Variant
Variation of the original melody.
Relative minor
Minor with the same key signature as the major.
Scalic
Movement of notes by step
Tonality
The key the passage/piece is in.
Chromatic
Movement of notes in semitones.
Ornaments
Decorations
Alto clef
Middle line = middle C. (Viola part)
Sequence
Melody rising/falling but repeats the same (often goes with modulation)
Terraced dynamics
No crescendos or diminuendos.
Polyphonic
2 or more melodies at once time.
