Branch of the government that makes DECISIONS for Canada (or in the case of a Provincial government, for the province)
Executive
Branch of the government that CREATES and PASSES LAWS
Legislative
Branch of the government that ENFORCES LAWS
Judicial
The part of the LEGISLATIVE branch that is NOT elected by the people but appointed by the Prime Minister on the recommendation of Cabinet Ministers. It is also called the UPPER HOUSE.
Senate
Chosen by the Prime Minister to work in the Senate to pass bills (laws)
Senator
Part of the LEGISLATIVE branch that is ELECTED by the people. This is also called the LOWER HOUSE.
House of Commons
LEADER of the political party with the most seats in PARLIAMENT
Prime Minister
MPs or MPPs that are chosen by the LEADER of the government to help form the EXECUTIVE.
Cabinet (Members)
Elected representatives of a district that represent their area in the HOUSE OF COMMONS
MP
PROVINCIAL/TERRITORIAL version of the HOUSE OF COMMONS
Legislative Assembly
Represents the Queen here in Canada - at the Federal level of government
Governor General
Represents the Queen here in Canada - at the Provincial level of government
Lieutenant General
LEADER of the political party that placed SECOND in the election
Leader of the Opposition
MP or MPP chosen by his peers to maintain order in the HOUSE OF COMMONS or LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY and makes sure that everyone is respecting the rules and tradition of the house.
Speaker
Elected representatives of a district that represent their area in the LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY
