A

aka. Grade IV astrocytoma
Poor prognosis - median survival 1 yr
Most common primary brain tumor in adults
Stain = GFAP (glial fibrillary acidic protein) (GFAP +)
Pseudopalisading necrosis
Cross midline -> butterfly glioma

A

Second most common primary brain tumor in adults
Benign
Arises from arachnoid cells
Dural tails = attachments to dura
Whorled spindle cells and psammoma bodies

Hemangioblastoma

A

Most often occurs in the cerebellum
Can secrete EPO leading to a secondary polycythemia
Associated with von Hippel Lindau syndrome

Rosenthal fibers - eosinophilic, corkscrew fibers

A

Highly malignant primitive neuroectodermal tumor
Compresses 4th ventricle -> hydrocephalus
Can give off “drop metastases” to the spinal cord
Homer-Wright rosettes
