brain stuff Flashcards
What is the cerebrum?
Cerebrum, the largest and uppermost portion of the brain
what does the corpus callosum do?
its a bundle of nerve fibers in the longitudinal fissure of the brain that enables corresponding regions of the left and right cerebral hemispheres to communicate.
What does the frontal lobe do?
The frontal lobe is important for cognitive functions and control of voluntary movement or activity.
what does the motor cortex do?
The motor cortex function is an execution of voluntary movements. Several areas of the cortex communicate between each other in order to make your body move the way you want.
what are the olfactory bulbs/tracts?
are a neural structure of the vertebrate forebrain involved in olfaction, the sense of smell.
what do the Parietal lobes do?
It combines all sensory type of information from all over the body.
what does the sensory cortex do?
is responsible for receiving and interpreting sensory information from different parts of the body.
what do the occipital lobes do?
the occipital lobe is dedicated to vision
what does the visual cortex do?
processes visual information.
what do the optic nerves and chiasm do?
The optic nerve connects the brain to the eye.
what do the temporal lobes do?
Memory. The temporal lobes contain structures important for memory.
what does the auditory cortex do?
processing of auditory (sound) information.
what does the cerebellum do?
plays a vital role in virtually all physical movement.
what is the brain stem?
connects the cerebrum with the spinal cord.
what is the thalamus?
Thalamus is involved in sensory as well as motor functions of the brain.
