Brain Structures Flashcards
Cranial Meninges
surround brain, consistent w/ spine, protect brain from injury, separate brain from cranial bones, contain cerebrospinal fluid, not part of blood brain barrier
Pons
connects spinal cord to cerebrum, ventilation/somatic subconscious motor control/visceral motor control/sensory info to cerebellum and thalamus
Cerebellum
attached to dorsal part of brain stem, 2 hemispheres —> lobes, skeletal muscle contraction
Medulla Oblongata
most inferior of brainstem, connects spinal cord and brain, heart rate/ventilation/swallowing/digesting/sensory info between thalamus and rest of brain stem
Mesencephalon
connects pons and diencephalon, somatic motor reflexes/maintaining consciousness/processing visual and auditory info
Diencephalon
not part of brainstem, links cerebrum to brainstem, thalamus and hypothalamus, processing and relaying sensory info from spinal cord to brainstem to brain
Cerebrum
right and left hemispheres —> 4 lobes FPOT, 3 ventricles with cerebrospinal fluid, intellect/conscious thought/complex movement/sensation/memory
