Brain parts Flashcards
what’s in the frontal lobe
- primary motor cortex
- Broca’s area
whats in the parietal lobe
- primary sensory cortex
what in the temporal lobe
- primary auditory
- werickes
whats in the occipital lobe
- primary visual cortex
3 parts of brain
- forebrain
- hindbrain
- midbrain
vaguely what does the hindbrain do
vital activities like breathing and voluntary movement and reflexes
vaguely what does the midbrain do
sensory information, receiving messages and passing them on
vaguely what does forebrain do
how we think feel and behave
the thalamus and hypothalamus are in the forebrain, what do they do
thalamus: receives and reacts to stimuli, then moves it
hypothalamus: maintains homeostasis, changes hormones
the cerebrum and cerebral cortex are also in the forebrain, what do they do
cerebrum: cognitive function, emotions, personality
cerebral cortex: gives meaning to information, decides on a response
oh yeah the corpus callosum is also part of the forebrain gang, what does it do
its stitches, it physically connects the two hemispheres and transmits things between them.
take a break
you got this
the reticular formation is part of the midbrain, what it do
stimulates the brain with sensory info, branches sort important to unimportant.
the cerebellum and medulla are the hindbrain, it must do something
cerebellum: coordinates movement and timing.
medulla: relays info between brain and spinal cord, regulates vital things like breathing.
