Q

What are the 3 layers of the meninges, describe them

A

Dura mater-outermost of meninges made of collagen fibres. Act as protective covering
Arachnoid mater-delicate, made of non vascular connective tissue
Pia mater-continuous with surface of brain/cord. Supports blood supply of brain. Forms choroid plexus (CSF production) with ependymal cells

Q

Middle meningeal artery, what is it a branch of and what does it go through to supply what

A

Branch of maxillary artery, external carotid artery. It runs through foramen spinosum and splits into anterior and posterior to supply dura mater and the calvaria

Q

What does the middle meningeal artery lie beneath and what is the property of this region

13
Q

How does the CSF circulate

A

CSF formed in ventricles of choroid plexus->exits from ventricular system via openings in roof of 4th ventricle into subarachnoid space->reabsorbed by arachnoid granulations into systemic veins
