Brain Hierarchy Flashcards
1
Q
(1) Cerebral Cortex & (4) lobes
A
- frontal lobe (primary motor cortex)
- temporal lobe (primary auditory cortex)
- occipital lobe (primary visual cortex)
- parietal lobe ( primary somatosensory cortex)
2
Q
Primary Cortex
A
- primary SENSORY cortices are 1st regions of the cerebral cortex to receive modality-specific sensory info.
- primary MOTOR cortex is last region of cerebral cortex to send info to limbs for execution of voluntary movements
- organization is contralateral
3
Q
Secondary Cortex
A
- receives modality-specific input directly from primary SENSORY cortical regions
- secondary MOTOR cortex transmits info directly TO primary motor cortex
4
Q
Association Cortex
A
- outside primary and secondary cortex
* least specialized cortex (not modality-specific) making it hard to pinpoint behavior
5
Q
Identifying regions of Cerebral Cortex
A
- by its given name
- by its location w/in lobes of the brain
- Brodmann area number
