7
Q

What is the choroid layer

A

Middle layer, absorbs light (dark colour) and has blood vessels to deliver nutrients and remove waste

8
Q

What is the retina

A

The inner layer, has blood vessels covered by photo receptors (rods and cones) that respond to light

Q

What is the iris

A

Colourful muscle, changes the size of the pupil based on the amount of light in the environment

12
Q

What is the pupil

A

A hole in the eye that allows light to enter, more light = constrict, less light = dilate

14
Q

What’s the optic nerve

A

Sensory neurons that are stimulated by photoreceptors that bring info about vision to the occipital lobe

16
Q

What is balance controlled by

A

Semicircular canals, which are filled with a liquid

17
Q

How do semicircular canals help with balance

A

Head moves>fluid moves>cilia moves>causes depolarization in sensory neurons, message is sent to cerebellum to maintain balance

18
Q

What does the pinna do

A

Collect soundwaves in the air

19
Q

What does the auditory canal do

A

Brings sound to eardrum, wax + hair = filtration system

20
Q

What does the tympanic membrane/eardrum do

A

Changes soundwaves into mechanical movement (vibrates)

21
Q

What are ossicles

A

Bones that amplify and conduct sound

22
Q

What does the eustachian tube do

A

Connects ear, nasal cavity, and throat (pharynx), releases pressure from the ear to protect ear drum

23
Q

What does the oval window do

A

Pushes on the cochlea, creating a wave in the liquid inside

24
Q

What’s the cochlea

A

A hard, snail-shell-shaped object protects the Organ of Corti (inside)

25
What is the Organ of Corti
A series of cilia mechanoreceptors that float in liquid, attached to sensory neurons. Fluid moves b/c of the oval window, mechanoreceptors move and cause DEPOLARIZATION in sensory neurons (message sent)
26
What parts of the ear are in the outer ear, and what state of matter
Pinna, auditor canal, eardrum State: Gas
27
What parts of the ear are in the middle ear, and what state of matter
Ossicles, eustachian tube, oval window State: Solid
28
What parts of the ear are in the inner ear, and what state of matter
Cochlea, Organ of Corti State: Liquid
