What is a meningoencephalocoele?

A

A rare neural tube defect.

Meningeal and/or cerebral tissue herniating through a defect in 1 or many bones of the skull. Occurs post neurelation

Can be closed (covered with skin) or open (fatal)

Basisphenoid, basioccipital and presphenoid form the floor

Occipital bone froms caudal extent

Ethmoidal bone cranially
