Brain Anatomy Lab- Human Flashcards
On the brain models, identify the following general brain regions and specific subdivisions
- Cerebrum
- Cerebellum
-
Diencephalon
A. Thalamus
B. Hypothalamus -
Brain Stem
A. Midbrain
B. Pons
C. Medulla oblongata
Identify the specific lobes of the cerebral cortex: Frontal lobe, Parietal lobe, Temporal lobe, Occipital lobe
Identify the sulci that divide each of the lobes: Central sulcus, Lateral suclcus, Parieto-occipital sulcus
4. On the brain models identify the: Precentral gyrus, Poscentral gyrus
Fill in the blank.
The precetral gyrus houses the _______________________________________________ cortex.
The postcentral gyrus houses the ______________________________________________ cortex.
Identify the corpus callosum, it is the largest group of commissural fibers.
Mid-sagittal section- identify the following components of the ventricular system.
The septum pellucidum forms the wall of the lateral ventricles (there are 2; appreciate that they are just lateral to the septum pellucidum).
The third ventricle is surrounded by the thalamus.
The fourth ventricle is just anterior to the cerebellum.
The cerebral aqueduct (aqueduct of the midbrain) connects the third and fourth ventricles.
Identify the pituitary gland. This is an endocrine structure, not a nervous structure. But, it is controlled by the hypothalamus of the brain so it’s proximity to the hypothalamus should be noted. Also, it is considered the “master gland” of the endocrine system so you should know its location.
