Brachial Plexus Pt I Flashcards
Nerves that form the brachial plexus
anterior primary rami of c5 through T1 (may receive fibers from C5 through T1)
this area of the brachial plexus travels laterally over rib 1
trunk
characteristics of brachial plexus roots
receive gray ramus communicans from sympathetic trunk, pass between anterior and middle scalene into posterior triangle, posterior and superior to subclavian artery
roots that form the superior trunk
c5 and 6
roots that form the middle trunk
c7
roots that form the inferior trunk
c8 and t1
cord that lies lateral to the second part of the axillary artery and its fibers
lateral, c5-c7
cord that lies medially to second part of the axillary artery and its fibers
medial, c8 and t1
cord that lies posterior to the axillary artery and its fibers
posterior, c5-t1
Dorsal scapular fibers and muscle supply
C5 ONLY, levator scapula, Rhomboid major and minor
Long thoracic nerve fibers and muscle supply
C5-C7, serratus anterior muscle
suprascapular fibers and muscle supply
C5 and C6, supraspinatus, infraspinatus
nerve to subclavius fibers and muscle supply
C5 and 6, subclavius
Lateral pectoral fibers and muscle supply
C5-C7, pectoralis major
Musculocutaneous fibers and muscle supply
C5-C7 coracobrachialis, biceps brachii, brachialis
Which nerve pierces belly of the coracobrachialis
musculocutaneous
as the musculocutaneous nerve passes between the biceps brachii and brachialis into the forearm it becomes this
lateral cutaneous nerve of the forearm
medial pectoral fibers and muscle supply
C8 and T1, pectoralis major and minor
medial cutaneous nerve of the arm fibers and nerve supply
C8 and T1 supplies skin of the medial arm between the axilla and elbow
medial cutaneous nerve of the forearm fibers and nerve supply
C8 and T1, supplies skin of over biceps brachii and anterior/medial aspects of forearm distal to wrist
ulnar fibers and muscle supply
C8, T1, and sometimes C7, flexor carpi ulnars and medial half of FDP
Ulnar nerve sensory supply
dorsal branch = skin on ulnar side of posterior hand, palmer branch = skin over the hypothenar eminence
Muscles supplied be the deep branch of the ulnar hand
abductor digiti minimi, flexor digiti minimi brevis, opponens digit minimi, adductor pollicis, deep head of the flexor pollicis brevis, all interossei, lumbricals 3 and 4
claw hand occurs from damage to this nerve
