Brachial Plexus Flashcards

1
Q

What is the brachial plexus?

A

Conjugation of nervous tissue comprised of fibres formed by the ventral rami of C5, C6, C7, C8 and T1.
It provides motor and sensory innervation for the entire upper limb.

Q

Musculocutaneous nerve sensory function?

A

The lateral cutaneous branch comes off it.

This innervates lateral half of anterior forearm, and a small portion of posterior forearm

Q

Axillary nerve sensory function?

A

Superior lateral cutaneous nerve of arm comes off it.

This innervates the inferior region of the deltoid.

Q

Ulnar nerve roots?

A

C8

T1

17
Q

Ulnar nerve motor functions?

A

Innervates muscles of hand (not thenar muscles or two lateral lumbricals)

Flexor carpi ulnaris and medial half of flexor digitorum profundus

18
Q

Ulnar nerve sensory functions?

A

Innervates anterior and posterior surfaces of the medial one and half fingers
And associated palm area

19
Q

Median nerve roots?

A

C6-C8

T1

20
Q

Median nerve motor function?

A

Innervates most of flexor muscles in forearm, the thenar muscles, the two lateral lumbrical muscles (that move the index and middle fingers)

21
Q

Median nerve sensory function?

A

Palmar cutaneous branch comes off it.
This innervates the lateral part of the palm

The digital cutaneous branch comes off it too.
This innervates the lateral three and a half fingers on the anterior palmar surface of the hand
