Brachial Plexus Flashcards
What is the brachial plexus?
Conjugation of nervous tissue comprised of fibres formed by the ventral rami of C5, C6, C7, C8 and T1.
It provides motor and sensory innervation for the entire upper limb.
Name the roots of the brachial plexus.
C5, C6, C7, C8 and T1
Name the trunks of the brachial plexus.
Superior
Middle
Inferior
Name the cords of the brachial plexus.
Lateral
Posterior
Medial
Name the branches of the brachial plexus.
Musculocutaneous Axillary Median Radial Ulnar
Draw the brachial plexus!

Musculocutaneous nerve roots?
C5
C6
C7
Musculocutaneous nerve motor function?
Innervates the brachialis, biceps brachii and corocobrachialis muscles
Musculocutaneous nerve sensory function?
The lateral cutaneous branch comes off it.
This innervates lateral half of anterior forearm, and a small portion of posterior forearm
Axillary nerve roots?
C5
C6
Axillary nerve motor function?
Innervates the deltoid, teres minor and long head of the triceps brachii
Axillary nerve sensory function?
Superior lateral cutaneous nerve of arm comes off it.
This innervates the inferior region of the deltoid.
Radial nerve roots?
C5 - C8
T1
Radial nerve motor functions?
Innervates triceps brachii and the extensor muscles in posterior compartment of forearm
Radial nerve sensory functions?
Innervates posterior aspect of arm and forearm.
And posterior, lateral aspect of hand
