brachial plexus Flashcards
Spinal roots of the brachial plexus
C5, 6, 7, 8, T1
5 parts of the brachial plexus
Roots, Trunks, Divisions, Cords, Branches
(Rowdy truckers drink cold beers)
Trunks of the brachial plexus
Superior, Middle, Inferior
Cords of the brachial plexus
Lateral, Posterior, Medial
Branches of the brachial plexus (top to bottom)
Musculocutaneous, Axillary, Median, Radial, Ulnar
Roots of the musculocutaneous nerve
C5, 6, 7
Motor functions of the musculocutaneous nerve
- Brachialis
- Biceps brachii
- Coracobrachialis
Roots of the axillary nerve
C5, C6
Motor function of the axillary nerve
- Teres minor
- Deltoid
Sensory function of axillary nerve
- Gives off lateral cutaneous nerve - innervates inferior region of deltoid (regimental badge area)
Roots of median nerve
C6, C7, C8, T1
Motor function of median nerve
- Most flexor muscles in forearm
- Thenar muscles
- Lateral lumbricals (associated with index + middle fingers)
Sensory functions of the median nerve
- Gives off palmar cutaneous branch - innervates lateral part of the palm
- Digital cutaneous branch - innervates lateral 3 1/2 fingers on the anterior surface of the hand
Roots of the radial nerve
C5, C6, C7, C8, T1
Motor function of the radial nerve
- Triceps brachii
- Posterior forearm muscles
