Q

outline the pathway of the axillary nerve?

A

forms in axilla form posterior cord, posterior to axillary artery and anterior to subscpaularis muscle
exits axilla at inferior border of subscapularis via the quadrangle space and passes medially to the surgical neck of the humerus where it divides into 3 branches

Q

outline the pathway of the radial nerve?

A

continues from posterior cord of brachial plexus and arises in axilla region posterior to axillary artery
exist axilla via triangular interval inferiorly
descends down arm in radial groove (wrapping around from medial to lateral)
wraps around humerus laterally
travels anteror to lateral epicondyle of humerus through cubital fossa and terminates at front of forearm (pierces through supinator) by dividing into a deep and superficial branch

Q

outline the pathway of the ulnar nerve?

A

continues from medial cord and descends between axillary artery and vein. proceeds down medial aspect of arm with brachial artery lateral to it.
at the mid point of the arm, it penetrates the medial fascial septum to enter the posterior compartment of the arm
pases posterior to the elbow through the ulnar tunnel (between medial epicondyle and olecranon)
in the forearm it pierces the 2 heads of the flexor carpi ulnaris and travels deep to the muscle, alongside the ulna
it gives 3 branches

Q

outline the pathway of the musculocutaneous nerve?

A

terminal branch of lateral cord
leaves axilla and pierces coracobrachialis
passes down flexor compartment of upper arm, superficial to brachialis but deep to biceps brachii
pierces deep fascia lateral to biceps brachial to emerge lateral to biceps tendon and brachioradialis
continues into forearm as ;lateral cutaneous nerve

Q

outline the pathway of the median nerve?

A

from medial and lateral cords
descends down arm lateral to brachial artery, then crosses the artery halfway down and sits medial to it
enters the anterior compartment of forearm via cubital fossa
travels between flexor digitorum profundus and superfiicalis
gives 2 main branches in forearm
