Brachial Plexus Flashcards
What does the brachial plexus supply
Upper limb (C5-T1)
Give anatomical relations of the roots of the brachial plexus
Exit their respective intervertebral foraminae between scalene muscles
Give anatomical relations of the trunks of the brachial plexus
Lying on first rib posterior to the third part of subclavian artery
Give anatomical relations of the divisions of the brachial plexus
Behind the middle third of clavicle
Give anatomical relations of cords of the brachial plexus
In the axilla, intimate relation with second part of axillary artery
Terminal branches
In relation with third part of axillary artery
Which cord terminates to musculocutaneous nerve
Lateral cord
Which cord terminates to median nerve
Lateral and medial cord
Which cord terminates to radial nerve
Posterior cord
Which cord terminates to ulnar nerve
Medial cord
Which part of the vertebrae innervates the lateral cord
C5-C6 (C7 to some extent)
What part of the vertebrae innervates the posterior cord
C7 (but to some degree all others do influence it I.e C5-T1)
Which part of the vertebrae innervates the medial cord
C8 and T1
What does the C5 root supply
Phrenic nerve (diaphragm) Dorsal scapular nerve (rhomboid major and minor muscles)
Which cord supplies the anterior parts of the arm and forearm
Medial and lateral cords
Which cord supplies the posterior compartment of the arm and forearm
Posterior cord
Which cord terminates to axillary nerve
Posterior cord
What are dermatomes
Strip of skin supplied by a single spinal segment
What are myotomes
Muscles that one particular nerve root supplies
What supplies proximal muscles of the upper limb
Superior roots of the brachial plexus (deltoid C5-6)
What supplies the distal muscles of the upper limb
Inferior roots of the brachial plexus (muscles of the hand T1)
