Q
What is a box plot?
A
- A box plot illustrates a data set by showing the median and quantiles of a set of data as well as the highest and lowest values.
- Box plots are a clear way of summarising a set of data and showing its distribution

Q
How do you compare box plots?
A
- compare the average by comparing the medians
- compare the consistency of the data by comparing the IQ ranges

Q
What are the advantages of box plots?
A
- shows range, interquartile range, median and consistency
- shows the extent of how much data is skewed/leans in a particular direction
- useful for comparing 2 or more sets of data at a glance

Q
What are the disadvantages of box plots?
A
- finding quartiles without a calculator can be time consuming
- even with a calculator it is easy to make mistakes and large sets of data can take a long time to enter
