Bowlbys monotropic theory Flashcards
AO1:
-attachment is deep and lasting
-connects one person to another
-began with the work of John Bowlby
AO1-
- based on evolutionary section of bio approach
- attachment is pre programmed in us - it is innate, response to child is in parents
- we attach to survive
AO1 -
known as mono tropic because it focuses on Childs attachment to one caregiver. this attachment is different from all others and most important
AO1-
-babies are born with a set of cute behaviours that encourage responses from adults, called social releasers
- includes smiling and cooing
- purpose to make adults feel love to the baby
AO1 -
-critical time period (0-2)
-if no attachment by then child will find it harder in the future
AO1 -
-inner working model - representation of relationships
- child who has good relationship will expect good relationships and vice versa
AO3-
P: strength, made in 1950s still use today
E: used by social workers, nurses and health visitors
L: still relevant
AO3-
P: weakness, ignores nature
E: innate, biologically pre programmed in us
E: suggest we attach to survive
L: therefore it unethical
AO3 -
P: weakness, evolutionary reductionist
E: reduces complex human behaviour to evolution
E: ignores other types of human behaviour
L: to simple
