Methodology
Series of case studies
Participants
31 boys and 13 girls were described aged between 5 and 17 were described as thieves
Control group
Another 44 children that were similar in age sex and IQ to the thieves. They were emotionally disturbed but did not steal.
Mothers
Mothers were interviewed to find the child’s case history
Procedures
Opportunity sample
Each child were given mental tests to see what their intelligence was
Mother was interviewed
Then child and Mother were interviewed
They looked at health or school reports
Therapy
Child met with psychiatrist every week for six months
The mothers talk over their problems
Detailed case history recorded so psychiatrists able to diagnose emotional problems
