Objectivism and subjectivism
We understand and construct a vision of our world (subjectivism) but that takes place within structures (objectivism)
Field
A structure of positions and relationships of these positions organized around types of capital – an arena of struggle
Habitus
Embodied history, the ways we think, act, and feel, creates a range of possibilities for us forms from this habitus history, where we are rooted.
It pre-disposes us but does not pre-determine us.
Hexis
The physical manifestation of our habitus, i.e the way we dress, walk, etc.
Habitus Cleavé
A transformation one goes through, discomfort, imposter syndrome, etc. i.e. an immigration experience
Three kinds of capital
Bourdieu
Social capital - networks
Cultural capital - institutions and resources, knowledge sets and understandings based on circumstance and culture
Economic capital - money
Symbolic capital - manifests in reputation, signaling
Doxa/doxic attitude
The rules of the game, ideologies, rules of the field etc. – by participating in the field, we become bearers of a doxic attitude
Symbolic power
A way of understanding how power is projected

Scientific capitalism - symbolic capital within the sciences
Production of knowledge as a process for the production of symbolic capital and symbolic power
Academia is organized in the pursuit of cultural and symbolic value which will hopefully be translated into your economic value
