Bosch Iconographies Flashcards

1
Q

Bosch himself

A

A devout christian, accomplished artist.
Very unique way of depicting Christian themes, a Christian Moralist or a Humanist?
Contemporary to Leonardo, adopting a whole new style and outlook on religious themes.
Creating much more realistic, 3D images
Opposed to usual medieval technique, Bosch used thin layers of paint to create transparency and built up pigment and shading.
Retained medieval perspective, with very shrap rising landscapes, sitting in between medieval and later styles but at odds with other artists of his time.
Considered a heretic/lunatic
