The Cyclopes were taking advantage of their greater strength to ravage their land

She told her off for being lazy and leaving her dirty clothes lying about
She encouraged her to go and do washing next morning, as if she was to be married, she’d need beautiful clothes for herself and her bridegroom’s party
What does Athene tell Nausicaa to ask for?
She tells her to ask her father for a waggon and mules to go to the washing pools
What did Nausicaa do when she woke up?
Went to her father and mother and asked for the waggon to wash the clothes
She says its important for her father to have clean clothes when discussing affairs with important people, and her brothers need clean clothes as well
How did Nausicaa find her mother and father when she went to ask about doing the washing?
Her mother was sitting at the hearth with her ladies, spinning purple yarn
Her father was going out to meet some princes at a conference the Phaeacia nobles had called him to
What did Nausicaa do when she reached the pools?
- They unharnessed the mules and let them graze
- Washed and rinsed the clothes, and spread them out to dry
- Bathed and rubbed themselves with olive oil
- Ate a meal by the riverside
What did Nausicaa do when she had finished her meal?
- She and her maids took off their headgear and began playing with a ball
What did Athene do when Nausicaa and her maids were about to leave?
- She arranged for Odysseus to wake up and see Nausicaa
How did Athene make Odysseus wake up?
She made the ball Nausicaa was playing with fall into the sea, which made all the girls shriek
What did Odysseus think when he first woke up?
He wondered whether the people here were hostile and uncivilised savages or kindly and god fearing people
