Bony Landmarks Flashcards
bone of the arm
Humerus
on the thumb side
radius bone
on the pinkie side
ulna bone
bones of the fingers (14)
Phalanges
distal to flexor crease there are 8 of them total
Carpals
5 of these
metacarpals
most common fracture on the radial side, peanut shaped, distally to styloid process of the radius, forms the snuffbox
Scaphoiod
articulates with the base of the first metacarpal, located distal to the scaphoid, source of the thumb’s unique movement
Trapezium
distal to the pisform, small protuberance or “hook”
medial attachment for flexor retnaculum connective tissue band that forms the roof of the carpal tunnel
hook is often tender
Hamate
knobby pisiform is an attachment site for the flexor carpi ulnaris
Pisiform
pyramid-shaped bone is located on the dorsal surface of the pisiform, just distal to the styloid process of the ulna.
While in the neutral position dorsal side is accessed
Triquetrum
most frequently dislocated carpal, located distal and medial to Lister’s tubercle accessible when wrist is in a neutral position
Lunate
largest of the carpals and is located distal to the lunate shallow ditch on its dorsal surface that can be easily palpated
Capitate
serves as lateral attachment sites for the flexor retinaculum
scaphoid and trapezium tubercles
small channel formed by the hook of the hamate and pisiform, ulna nerve is vulnerable in this area
Tunnel of Guyon
