Bones, Joints and Ligaments Flashcards
what are the bones in pelvis?
Ø Pelvic (hip) bones (Right and
left )
Ø Sacrum
Ø Coccyx
what does the pelvic bones articulate?
The pelvic bones articulate
posteriorly with the sacrum at
the sacro-iliac joints and with
each other anteriorly at the
pubic symphysis
what is the 3 pelvic bones?
o Ilium
o Ischium
o pubis.
what is the other 2 pelvic bones?
acetabulum
obturator foramen
what is the ilium?
The most superior in position
what is the two parts of ilium?
o Body
o Wing or ala
what is the iliac crest of ilium?
- superior margin of the wing thickens
- crest terminates anteriorly as the anterior superior iliac spine and posteriorly as the posterior superior iliac spine
label the proper parts on ilium
what are the surfaces of ilium
what is ischium?
- The posterior and inferior part of the
pelvic bone. - It has: body and ramus
what is body and ramus of ischium?
Body
* Projects superiorly to join with the ilium and the superior ramus of the pubis
Ramus
* Projects anteriorly to join with the inferior ramus of the pubis.
what is in the ischium?
- ISCHIAL SPINE that separates the lesser sciatic notch from the greater
sciatic notch - It has a large tuberosity =ISCHIAL TUBEROSITY
- This tuberosity is an attachment point for lower limb muscles and provides support
when sitting
what is pubis?
- The anterior and inferior part of the pelvic bone.
- It has a body and two arms (rami)
what is the body of pubis?
- Articulates with the body of the pubic bone on the other side at the pubic symphysis
- The body has pubic crest and pubic tubercle on its superior surface
what are the two arms of pubis?
o Superior pubic
ramus-
* Joins with ilium
and ischium
* The sharp
superior margin
is pectineal line
o Inferior pubic
ramus
* Join with the
ramus of the
ischium
