Bones In Face Flashcards
Mandible
Unpaired lower jaw bone.
Symphasis menti or Mental symphasis
Point of fusion of the two halves of the mandible.
Mental friamina
Holes through which mental nerve of V trigeminal process. Two holes in mandible.
Corpus
Body of the mandible.
Condylar process
Articulates with the temporal bone to form TMJ. On a picture of a jaw looking forward, the condylar process is where the two points on top of the joint would meet the cheeks. On a lateral view of the skull, the condylar process is on the bottom left where the cheek bones almost meet the cheek (a little below).
Coronoid process
Important point of attachment for muscles that are used for masticating. On a picture of a jaw face forward they are right above the condylar process. On the tip of the joints where they would meet the cheeks. On a lateral skull, the coronoid process is in front near where the mandible and the nasal cavity meet.
Mandibular notch
Separates these two processes. On a picture face forward of a jaw it is in the middle “dip” right below the condylar process. On a lateral view of a skull, the mandibular notch is in the middle of the condylar and coranoid notches
Dental Alveoli
Small sacs on the upper surface of the avleolar arch of the mandible that teeth are found in.
Angle
The point at which the mandible andgls upwardly.
Mylohyoid line
Point of attach for the mylohyoid muscle. On a front facing picture, the mylohyoid line is a crease in the back lower bottom gums
Mandibular Foramen
Is a conduit for the inferior alveolar nerve of the V trigeminal providing sensory innervation for the teeth and gums on a front view of a skull it is an arch in the top near the back on the mandible inside.
Axillae
Paired bones of the upper jaw
Upper dental ridge
Clefting of the lip and hard palate
Frontal Process
Superior most point of the maxilla. Where you drag your finger from the ridge of the nose up to your eye.
Infra orbital margin
Lower point of the eye socket. Corner of eye socked. That’s curved part.
