Bones Flashcards
anatomical regions of the upper limb from top to bottom?
The pectoral (shoulder) girdle
The arm
The forearm
The hand
What bone connects the upper limb to the trunk?
clavicle - collar bone
What does the medial end of the clavicle articulate with ?
thoracic wall of trunk at the MANUBRIUM of the sternum
Where does the lateral end of the clavicle articulate?
w the scapular acromion
Describe the shape and what the clavicle is
S shaped, movable strut supporting the scapula and the rest of the upper limb away from it
Why is the position of the clavicle and scapula important?
holds the rest of the limb away which allows a greater range of movement.
What is the scapula?
A flat triangular plate of bone w various bony features inc processes, ridges, fossae and other structures = sites of attachment for muscles and ligaments.
What is the fossa on the lateral region of the scapula and what is it for?
Glenoid fossa -> shallow cut like depression in a widened region. makes the socket of the ball and socket joint
What is the most lateral and superior part of the scapula?
Acromion - it’s part of the scapular spine
Name an important hooklike attachment point for muscles which Is lateral to the acromion?
Coracoid process
What is the main large fossa on the anterior side of the scapular?
Subscapular fossa
What is the purpose of the scapular spine?
separates the infra and supraspinatus fossa on the posterior side
?What is the ball of the ball and socket joint
head of the humerus (proximal end)
What is the anatomical name for the shoulder blade?
scapula
What is the anatomical name for the shoulder joint?
glenohumeral joint
