Bone test Flashcards
What does osteogenic cell stand for?
Bone Produce
What does Osteoblast cell stand for?
Bone Bud
What does Osteocyte stand for?
Bone Cell
What does osteoclast stand for?
bone break
What does Axial mean?
Bones on or near the mid line, skull, vertabral. ribs, and facial bones
What does appendicular mean?
Limbs and bones that attach limbs to the trunk. All arm, leg, shoulder and hip bones.
What type of bone: Vary in shape and structure and therefore do not fit into any other category.
Irregular bones. Ex. vertabrae
What type of bone: a bone that is longer then it is wide
Long bone. Ex. femur and fingers
What type of bone: bones that shaped roughly as a cube (wider)
Short bone. Ex. wrist and ankles
What type of bone: Bones with a flat shape not rounded.
Flat bones. Ex. sternum and ribs
What type of bone: a small bone commonly found embedded within a muscle or tendon
Sesamoid bone. Ex. patellae
Full of red marrow, and makes up the inside of the epiphyes.
Spongy bone
Growth plate
Epiphyseal
creates blood and filled with stem cells
Red marrow
Hollow space in diaphysis, yellow marrow
Medullary cavity
Outside of the bone and makes up diaphysis
compact bone
Small hole for blood vessels to exit/enter the bone.
Nutrient foramen
Connetive Tissue layer lining the outside of the bone
Periosteum
Knobby end of the bone CLOSER to the trunk
Proximal ephysis
Inside of the bone that lines the medullary cavity.
Endosteum
Stores fat
Yellow marrow
shaft
Diaphysis
knobby end FURTHER from the trunk
Distal epiphysis
Protects ends of bones from wear
Articular cartilage
The funtions of your bones
Support
Protect
Produce hormones
Anchorage
Fat storage
Blood cell formation
Mineral storage
What step of fracture repair is this? Blood vessels in the bone are torn, blood clots form, bone cells start to die.
Step 1. Hematoma forms
What step of fracture repair is this? New vessels grow in the clots, chondroblasts produce cartilage matrix connecting broken ends and forms a temporary splint.
Step 2. Soft callus forms.
What step of fracture repair is this? 1 week in osteoblasts begin producing osteoids replacing soft callus with bone
Step 3. Soft callus ossifies
What step of fracture repair is this? Bone remodleing must occur to clean away excess bone and hollow out medullary cavity.
Step 4. Bone remodeling
Bone that breaks in two places causing a piece to be afloat
Segmental
A fracture that breaks the skin
Open
The fracture that doesn’t break through the whole bone
Partial
Fracture that goes through entire bone
complete
Diagonal fracture
oblique
Partial frature that casues bone to bend ( infants and toddlers)
greenstick
Broken ends of bone are jammed togther
impacted
straight line fracture
tranverse
Bone does not break skin
closed
Multiple bone fragments after fracture
comminuted
Bones are broken but still aligned
non-displaced
What two tissues make up your skeleton?
Bones and cartilage
Bone matrix
osteoid
5 organs best protected by bones?
Heart, brain lungs, reproductive organs and spinal cord
