Bone Marrow (Stem Cell) Transplantation Flashcards
Clarifcations
Bone marrow is same as hematopoietic Stem cells
These are NOT embryonic stem cells
HSCT
ASCT
Allo SCT
MRD/MSD
Hemato Stem cell trnasplant
Autologoous stem cell transplant
Allogenic stem cell transplant
Matched related/sibling donor
MUD
TRM
OS
GVHD
Matched unrelated donor
Treatment related mortality
Overall survival
GVHD
Types of allogenic
MRD - relative donor
Syngeneic - monozygotic twin donor
Haplo-identical - part or offsrping
MUD
Umbilical cord blood
Can use double cord - combining two units for adult transplant
Myeablative conditioning
Eradicate all bone marrow cells…irreversible cytopenias and stem cell support is mandatory
Reduced intensity conditioning
Some degree of cytopenias and may need stem cell support…may be reversible
Non-myeloablative
Too low to eradicate all BM cells but enough for engraftment…cytopenias may be reversible without stem cell transplant
Sources of stem cells
BM
Peripheral
Umbilical cord blood
Incidations for allogenic and autologous stem cells
Myeloma = Autologous AML = allogenic
Conditions for trnasplant
Donor ID
Healthy
Controlled (remission)
Support system
Best and worse rate of survival
Best - HLA matched donor siblings under 50
Worst - unrelated over 50
Primary killer in transplants
Primary dz (relapse)
Which is transplant not 1st line for
CML - imatinib
