Boiling-Point Elevation and Freezing-Point Depression Flashcards
1
Q
Intro
A
> both are colligative properties
> can be used to determine the molar mass of solutes
2
Q
Colligative Properties
A
> properties of a solution that depend only on the number of particles in a solution, not on its’ nature
3
Q
Boiling Point
A
> temperature at which vapour pressure for a pure solvent or solution matches external pressure
> P0 = Pext or Psltn = Pext
Boiling-Point Elevation: in Psltn, higher temperature is required for vapour pressure to reach Pext b/c it decreases vapour pressure
