✧disposed in furnace wall; in configuration similar to water-cooled wall

✧ located @ upper portion of furnace

✧ located @ horizontal pass right downstream on the furnace exit, where high temp gas pass.
✧ receives heat from flue gas. primarily by convection, secondarily by radiation

✧ membrane
plain tube type of water cooled wall
consists of row of tubes in the inner side of furnace wall, by joining together drum(s) and headers
membrane type of water cooled wall
panel by joining together finned tubes or plain tubes through flat steel bars
membrane water cooled wall
✧ most boiler furnace have all water coole membrane wall
✧ this is to reduce the maintenance of furnace wall and reduce the temp of gas entering the convection bank, to the point where slag deposition and superheater corrosion can be controlled by sootblowing.

✧ by outlet fluid state (can be classified into steaming type & non steaming type)

cast iron type (advantage)
corrosion and erosion resistance
cast iron type (disadvantages)
✧ thick in wall tubes, large in volume and weight
✧ water weeping and sweating are prone to occur due to large quantity of bends
✧ ash deposition and clogging easily occur between fins
✧ can only be non-steaming type, if otherwise, water hammer may occur and result in the damage of the economizer
