Bohr's Model of the Atom Flashcards
1
Q
Process by which an Atom Releases Photons
A
- When an atom emits energy, moving from Excited State to the Ground State, the previously emitted energy is released as a photon of light.
1
Q
Describe Bohr’s Model
A
- Electrons exist in set Energy Levels surrounding the Nucleus (n=1-7)
- Ground State: Lowest possible energy level an E- can exist in
- Excited State: When an E- absorbs E (Heat/Energy), E- moves from the Ground State to the higher Energy Levels, becoming unstable
2
Q
Describe the Three Limits of Bohr’s Model
A
- Electrons don’t actually move in circular orbits.
- Rydberg’s equation only works for Hydrogen
- Model could not properly explain bonding.
