A

He was a good friend of Aristide Cavaille-Coll, inaugurating nearly all of the early instruments. He was a celebrated improvisor of naturalistic scenes (especially thunderstorms). Studied with Franck at the Paris Conservatory, with Franck’s Final dedicated to him.
