Body Systems Quiz Flashcards
skeletal system
main function: provide movement, support and protection
main parts: bones, bone marrow
excretory system
main function: removal of waste, salt and excess water from blood
main parts: kidneys, ureters, bladder, urethra
nervous system
main function: to send and receive messages through the body
main parts: cerebrum, cerebellum, brain stem, spinal cord
muscular system
main function: provide movement and protection
main parts: voluntary and involuntary muscles/cardiac
endocrine system
main function: release hormones to target tissues in the body
main parts: glands and hormones
integumentary system
main function: protect organs, guard against bacteria
main parts: epidermis, dermis, sweat and oil glands
reproductive system
main function: create offspring with half of the genes of each parent main parts (female): ovaries, oviduct, uterus, vagina (male): testes, sperm duct, prostate, urethra, penis
a person becomes ill immediately after eating, and begins to vomit. how does this help?
get the bacteria out of the body
what is the body’s response to pollen? how does this help?
sneeze, get the pollen out
how does a fever help fight infection?
the body heats up to help the white blood cells
what happens to our bodies when we get hot? how do we cool off?
we sweat, the sweat evaporates and makes us cooler (integumentary system)
what happens when we get cold?
we shiver, the muscle contractions warm up the body/ goosebumps, traps the heat (muscular and integumentary system)
compare positive to negative feedback. which one is more common?
negative - tells the body to stop what it’s doing, ex. sweating
positive - tells the body to continue what it’s doing, ex. blood clotting
negative is the most common
how does our endocrine system maintain homeostasis?
send hormones to interact with all systems of the body/ systems work interdependently
what systems are involved in walking?
skeletal: to keep you upright / muscular: moves the bones / nervous: to feel where you’re going
