Body Systems & Functions Flashcards
What are the 11 body systems?
Muscular, skeletal, nervous, cardiovascular, digestive, endocrine, respiratory, urinary, reproductive, integumentary, and lymphatic
Muscular system
Related to movements, producing body heat, and maintaining posture (muscles)
Skeletal system
Provides framework and attachments for muscles, protect soft tissues, produce blood cells, and store inorganic salts (bones, ligaments, muscles)
Nervous system
Send, receive, and process information (brain, spinal cord, nerves, sense organs)
Cardiovascular system
Moves blood through blood vessels and transport substances throughout the body (heart, arteries, capillaries, veins)
Digestive system
Recieve, break down, and absorb food; eliminate unabsorbed material (mouth, pancreas, intestines, salivary glands, esophagus, liver, gallbladder)
Endocrine system
Control metabolic activities of body structures (ovaries, thyroid gland, pancreas, testes, and glands that produce hormones
Respiratory system
intake and output of air, exchange of gases, between air and blood (nasal cavity, trachea, bronchi, lungs)
Urinary system
remove waste from blood, store and transport urine, maintain water and electrolyte balance (kidneys, ureters, urinary bladder, urethra)
Reproductive system
