Body Systems And Responses Flashcards
Which system is in charge of fast body processes?
Nervous system
Which body system is in charge of slow body processes
Endocrine system
What do sensory neurones do?
Carry signals from the outer parts of your body (periphery) into the Central nervous system
What do motor neurones do?
Carry signals from the central nervous system to the outer parts (muscles, skin, glandes) of your body
What do receptors do?
Sense the environment (chemicals, light, sound, touch) and encode this information into electrochemical messages that are transmitted by sensory neurons
What do interneurons do?
Connect various neurons within the brain and spinal cord
What does the central nervous system consist of?
The brain and spinal cord as well as cranial and central nerves
What does the peripheral nervous system consist of?
Peripheral nerves
What does the autonomic nervous system consist of?
Autonomic nerves
What is the cerebellum responsible for?
Movement, balance and coordination
What is the cerebrum responsible for?
Thinking and talking
What is the brain stem responsible for?
Involuntary actions (breathing etc.)
What is the thalamus responsible for?
Processing sensory information (from ears, eyes, nose etc.) and sends it to the cortex
What is the hypothalamus responsible for?
Homeostasis
What does the sympathetic nervous system prepare the body for?
Sudden stress- fight or flight response
