body systems Flashcards
What does the frontal lobe control?
Executive functions, thinking, planning, organisation, problem solving, emotions and behaviour control, personality
What does the motor cortex control?
Movement
What does the sensory cortex control?
Sensations
What does the parietal lobe control?
Perception, arithmetic, spelling and making sense of the world
What does the occipital lobe control?
Vision
What does the temporal lobe control?
Memory, understanding language
What does the Medulla Oblangata control?
Breathing, Heart, Respiration
What does Mrs Gren stand for ?
Movement, Respiration, Sensitivity, Growth, Reproduction, Excretion, Nutrition
What is the Metabolic Needs of life?
3 min without air, 3 days without water and 3 weeks without food
What is the equation for Photosynesis?
6CO2 + 6HO2 –> C6H12O6 +6O2
What is the equation for Cellular Respiration?
C6H12O6 +6O2 –> 6CO2 +6HO2
What factor limits the size of a cell?
Surface Area to Volume ratio
Nucleo-cyptoplasmic ratio
Fragility of membrane
Mechanical structures necessary to hold the cell together (and the content of the cell in place.
What are endotherms and exotherms?
Endotherms are warm blooded animals like mice, hummingbirds and some fish
Exotherms are cold blooded animals like amphibians, reptiles and insects
How does a multicellular organism overcome the factor that limits the size of unicellular organisms?
Multicellular organisms work together in order to keep this from happening. Large animals have organs such as kidneys, lungs and intestines that increase the surface area available for exchange processes, and a circulatory system to move material and heat energy between the surface and the core of the organism
What is the difference of diffusion and osmosis
Diffusion is the random movement of a substance through a high concentration to a low concentration area. For this to be consider diffusion it must pass through a semi permeable membrane
What does the muscular system do?
Enables movement of the body, maintains posture and circulates blood throughout the body
What does the urinary system do?
For waste purposes. Works with lungs, skin, and intestines all of which excrete waste to keep chemical balanced in your body
What does the respiratory system do?
To supply blood with oxygen in order for the blood to deliver the oxygen to the rest of the body.
What does the digestive system do?
Breaks down food and delivers nutrients to the rest of the body. Also delivers waste to the urinary system
What does the reproductive system do?
A collection of organs that work together to produce new life
What does the integumentary system do?
Protects internal organs and tissues
What does the nervous system do?
To send messages to the rest of the body. CNS- Central Nervous system, Spine. PNS- Periferal Nervous System. Keeps you alive and helps you react to danger
What does the cardiovascular system do?
Transports nutrients, gases, hormones to the rest of the body
What does the lymphatic system do?
Protect the human body from sickness and diseases
What is the Poikilotherms?
an organism that cannot regulate its body temperature except by behavioural means such as basking or burrowing.
What is the anaerobic respiration equation?
C6H12O6 –> lactic acid +2ATP
