Body Systems Flashcards
What are the 7 characteristics of life
M r s G R E N Movement Respiration Sensitivity Growth Reproduction Excretion Nutrition
Digestive system
Stomach intestines
Breaks down your food
Respiratory system
Lungs heart
Takes in oxygen and gets rid of carbon dioxide
Circulatory system
Heart lungs
Sends non oxygenated blood to the lungs and the oxygenated blood gets pumped round ur body
Excretory system
Liver kidneys
Gets rid of waste products in your body
Reproductive system
Testicles uterous
Makes babies
Nervous system
Brain spinal cord Receives info from skin joints and muscles Makes your joints move Makes you react to things Remember things think things and plan
What is in an animal cell
DNA chromosomes nucleus cytoplasm cell membrane nuclear membrane
What is in a plant cell
Cell membrane cytoplasm nucleus DNA chromosomes vacuole
Chloroplast cell wall
What are the differences and similarities between the 2 cells
Both structured the same both eukaryotic cells
Different sizes
Plant cells have more structures
What do the structures do
Cell membrane is a semi-permiable membrane
Cytoplasm is the liquid part of the cells where reactions take place
Nucleus controls the cell and contains the genetic info
Chromosomes are thread like structures made of dna
Vacuole contains cell sap support
Chloroplast contains chlorophyll for photosynthesis
Cell wall made of cell sap support
What does a red blood cell do
Takes oxygen around the body
What does a root hair cell do
Collects water and nutrients from soil
What does a sperm cell do
Cary’s an X or a Y chromosome and fertilises an egg
What does a nerve cell do
They stimulate other cells
What does a ciliated epithilium cell do
To sweep away foreign bodies
What does a muscle cell do
Provides movement and heat to the organs
How do u use a microscope
Place the slide on the stage
Turn until the shortest lens points at the hole in the stage
Arrange the lamp and mirror so that light shines through the stage
Don’t use direct sunlight
Position the objective lens just above the slide
Look down the eyepiece and start focusing
Focus by moving the lens slowly away from the slide till u get a clear pic
If u focus too close the slide might break or u could damage the objective lens
If u need to look in more deatail turn to the longest lens and refocus
How do u prepare an onion cell slide
Cut a small piece of onion
Use finger nails to get the inner layer of onion
Put the piece of onion flat on the slide and add two drops of water
Gently put the cover slip onto the slide using a needle
