What is a long bone?
Longer than they are wide, comprised mostly of compact bone. Eg.
What is a short bone?
Short bones are roughly cube-shaped, thin layer of compact bone. Eg. Phalanges, carpal, tarsal
What is a flat bone?
Strong, flat bones that enable muscular attachment and protection of vital organs. Eg. sternum, pelvis, scapular
What is a irregular bone?
Have an irregular shape, thin layer of compact bone. Eg. vertebrae, skull, pelvis
What is a sesamoid bone?
Usually small, irregular embedded in tendons. Eg. patella, kneecap, elbow
What is a ball-and-socket joint?
Flexion and extension, adduction, abduction circumduction. Eg. hip and shoulder joint.
What is a hinge joint?
Flexion and extension. Eg. Elbow, knee, fingers.
What is a condyloid joint?
Flexion and extension, adduction, abduction circumduction. Eg. wrist.
What is a pivot joint?
Rotation. Eg neck, forearm
What is a saddle joint?
Flexion and extension, adduction, abduction circumduction. Eg. Thumb.
Define heart
key organ, main function is to propel blood throughout the body.
Define cardiovascular system
The network that delivers blood to the body’s tissue
Define blood vessels
The network of tubes carrying blood through the tissues and organs; a vein, artery, or capillary
Define arteries
Blood vessels that carry blood away from the heart, thick muscles that contract to keep the blood from moving away from the hear and through the body.
Define Veins
Blood vessels that carry blood back to the heart, not as muscular, uses valves
