Two basic designs of pads
A
- Flat- most hockey pads are this design
- Cantilever pads - protect AC joinsts (disperse force across entire shoulder girdle)

Checklist for fitting shoulder pads
A
- follow manufacturer guidlines
- measure or ask weight
- player position
- inspect what body parts are covered by pads
- check the fit in the back in the back of the pads, neck, and shoulders
- there is a gap in the shoulder and the clavicle
- pectorals are completely covered by pads

How to perform regular maintenance checks
A
- examine outer shell for cracks and damaged pieces
- straps and locking clips are working
- foam liner for rips or tears, memory is still functioning
- clean at least 1 per season

Functional Knee braces
A
- Prophylactic (before): protect MCL
- Functional: used to protect ACL injuries or post surgical ACL ligament repair
- Rehabilitation: immobilization after surgery

Reconditioning
A
annual ensure thoroughly inspected, cleaned, sanitized, repaired and recertified before return to the player field

A
- periodic reconditioning every 2-3 seasons
- do it yourself
- some teams choose not to and just purchase new equipment
