Anatomical Position
The position where the body is upright, facing forward, and hands out with palms facing forward.
Sagittal Plane
Plane that splits body from top to bottom into left and right segments
Mid Sagittal Plane
Splits the body directly in half
Frontal Plane
Vertical plane which divides the body into anterior and posterior (Stomach and Butt)
Transverse Plane
Divides the body into superior and inferior parts (Head and Feet)
Anterior (Ventral)
The front. Heart is toward the sternum
Posterior (Dorsal)
Back of a structure.
Superior
Closer to the head
Inferior
Further from the head
Medial
Closer to the Mid Sagittal line
Lateral
Further from the middle of the body
Proximal
Closer to the attachment point
Distal
Further from the attachment point
Superficial
Closer to the surface of the body
Deep
Further from the surface of the body
