Levels of Organization (Put in Order)
- Organ
- Subatomic Particle
- Molecule
- Organism
- Cell
- Tissue
- Organelle
- Atom
- Organ System
What is anatomy?
Structure
What is Physiology?
Function
Cell
All living things
Internal environment
Environment within body
Homeostasis
Body equilibrium
Interdependence of cells
Cells that depend on eachother
Structure and funtion
Interrelated
Metabolism
The sum of all chemical reactions in a living system; energy production and nutrients cycling
Respiration
Breathing; making energy
Digestion
Breaking down food into usable nutrients for absorption into the blood
Circulation
Moving chemicals and cells through the body fluids
Excretion
Removing waste product
Homeostatic mechanisms
Self-regulating systems that monitor aspects of the internal environment and correct them as needed
3 parts of homeostatic mechanisms
Receptor: input; detects and provides information about the stimuli
Control center: process; decision maker that maintains the set point
Effector: output; muscle/gland that responds to the control center and causes the necessary change in the internal environment
Negative feedback
Responds to change by moving the variable in the opposite direction of the deviation of set point
Negative Feedback effects
Body temp, BP, and glucose level regulation
Positive feedback
Uncommon, deviation intensifies instead of reversing
