Body Organization Flashcards
What is Anatomy?
Study of body structures
What is Physiology?
Study of the function of the body
* Anatomical positions and planes
* Medical terminology related to the human body
How is Homeostasis achieved?
When the body’s systems and process maintain stability
* Organ systems rely on each other to achieve homeostasis
* If disease is present within one system, other systems will be affected
What is a cell?
Smalleses living unit in the body
What are tissues?
Cells that are similar and organized form together as tissue
What are organs?
two or more tissue types that from to create the organs
What are organ systems?
a group of organa that work togetehr to perform complicated tasks
What are the three main parts of a cell?
- Cell membrane
- Cytoplasm
- Nucleus
What is the cell membrane?
outer layer of the cell, thin and permeable-aloows substances to pass through
What is the cytoplasm? and what important structure does it hold?
- Liquid containing the cell’s structures
- Mitochondria- makes energy (ATP) for the cell
What does the nucleus contain?
Contains chromosomes (DNA)
