How do diagnosed conditions relate to trauma?

A

Often. But clinicians may just offer superficial diagnosis of oppositional disorder or borderline etc unless someone explicitly takes a trauma history and this is looked at.

Where do genes come in?

A

People can have genes that make them vulnerable to certain conditions. But early developmental environment can have a major impact on whether these genes do their worst or not. Also epigenetics can pass markers of trauma from one generation to the next.

A

What was ACE study?

A

Adverse childhood experiences. Massive study that gave each adverse experience a point. Major correlations between more points and medical issues; depression, suicide etc.

A

You know what you dealing with. Often adults with child trauma cannot remember. It’s partly hidden - harder to bring to light

What did research into monkeys show?

A

Resus monkeys showed how genes can lead to aggressive or nervous monkeys. But in eight circumstances the nervous monkeys can be good mothers but in others bad. Depends on environment. Also importance of mother rearing and not peer rearing.

A

Mice licked a lot by mothers more confident than those that are not. Better at mazes.

A

A

Can be aggressive or withdrawn; clingy; feel like everything unreal. Many - seems rooted in agency and lack of it - ability to get oneself out of a bad situation.

What difference arises from time of trauma?

A

Easier to cure later trauma and trauma of child who has recollection of being loved. If no recollection then may simply have not developed capacity for forming connection. Did mention one particular troubled kid who found connection through a horse.
