Body in Motion Flashcards
What is FITT?
Frequency, intensity, time, type
What is aerobic?
An exercise that is dependant on oxygen utilisation by the body to enable muscular work. It involves an activity of lower intensity
Example of aerobic
Marathon
What is anaerobic?
An exercise that is not dependant on oxygen utilisation and focuses more high intensity and impact form of exercise
Example of anaerobic
Weight training, sprinting, jumping
What are the Skill related components of fitness?
Power, speed, agility, coordination, balance, reaction time
What is an Agonist muscle?
The muscle that moves
What is an Antagonist muscle?
The muscle that relaxes
What is inspiration?
The process of taking air into the lungs
What is expiration?
The process of removing air from the lungs
What is gaseous exchange?
The transfer of oxygen from inhaled air into blood and transfer of carbon dioxide from the blood into exhaled air
What is external gaseous exchange?
The transfer of oxygen and carbon dioxide into the bloodstream through diffusion.
What is internal gaseous exchange?
Oxygen is loaded into the bloodstream and carbon dioxide is unloaded from the bloodstream. Occurs in alveoli
What is the atria?
The top superior chambers of the heart
What are ventricles?
The two inferior chambers of the heart
What is systolic?
Relating to the chase of the heartbeat when heart muscles contract and pumps blood from the chambers into the arteries
What is diastolic
Relating to the phase of the heart beat when the heart muscle relaxes and allows the chambers to fill with blood
What are arteries?
The muscular-walled tubes forming part of the circulation system by which blood is conveyed from the heart to all parts of the body
What are arterioles?
A small branch of an artery leading into the capillaries
What are capillaries?
Any of the five branching blood vessels that form a network between the arterioles and venuoles
What are venuoles?
Very small veins, especially ones carrying blood from the capillaries
What are veins?
Any of the tubes forming part of the blood circulation system of the body, carrying in most cases oxygen depleted blood towards the heart
What are the components of blood?
55% plasma and 45% red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets
What is the aorta?
Largest blood vessel in the body that carries oxygenated blood from the heart to the body
