ventral cavity
made up of the thoracic cavity and the abdominopelvic cavity
thoracic cavity
the region surrounding the chest, and it is part of the axial portion of the human body
left plural cavity
encloses the left lung
right plural cavity
encloses the right lung
mediastinum
separates the thoracic cavity into two compartments, which contain the right and left lungs.
pericardial cavity
encloses the heart, and the chamber of the heart

a combination of the abdominal and pelvic cavity
pelvic cavity
the portion of the abdominopelvic cavity enclosed by the hip bones; it contains the terminal portion of the large intestine, the urinary bladder, and the internal reproductive organs
abdominal cavity
the viscera include the stomach, liver, spleen, gallbladder, kidneys, and most of the small and large intestines
diaphragm
a broad, thin muscle that separates the thoracic cavity into two compartments, which contain the right and left lungs
dorsal cavity
located alongside the back side of the human body, subdividing into the cranial cavity and spinal cavity
cranial cavity
the cavity that holds the brain
vertebral canal
contains the spinal cord within the sections of the backbone
oral cavity
containing the teeth and tongue
nasal cavity
located within the nose and divided into the right and left portions by a nasal septum
