Ventral Cavity
includes the thoracic (chest) cavity and the abdominopelvic cavity
Thoracic Cavity
includes a right and left pleural cavity (contains lungs) and a mid portion called the mediastinum (contains everything in the thoracic cavity besides the lungs, which includes the heart, trachea, right and left bronchi, esophagus, thymus, various blood vessels, thoracic duct and other lymphatic vessels, various lymph nodes, and nerves)
Dorsal Cavity
includes the cranial (lies in the skull and houses the brain) and spinal cavities (lies in the spinal column and houses the spinal cord).
Parietal
refers to the actual wall of a body cavity of the lining membrane that covers its surface.
Visceral
refers not to the wall or lining of a body cavity but to the thin membrane that covers the organs, or viscera, within a cavity.
Peritoneal Cavity
the space or opening between the two membranes in the abdomen.
