Cranial cavity
the space within the skull that contains the brain. It is part of the dorsal cavity
Dorsal cavity (cranial and spinal)
along the posterior (back) side of the body and includes the cranil cavity (housing the brain) and the spinal cavity (housing the spinal cord)
Spinal cavity
the space within the vertebral column that contains the spinal cord. It is part of dorsal cavity
Thoracic cavity
located in the chest area and is separated from the abdominal cavity by the diaphragm. It contains the lungs, heart and other structures.
Pleural cavities
two small cavities (left and right) surrounding each lung. They are within the thoracic cavity and contain pleural fluid, which reduces friction during breathing.
Pericardial cavity
the cavity that surrounds the heart It si located within the thoracic cavity and contains pericardial fluid, which helps protects and lubricate the heart
Abdominal cavity
the cavity is located below the diaphragm and above the pelvic cavity. It contains many vital organs, including the stomach, liver, intestines, pancreas, and kidneys
Pelvic cavity
located below the abdominal cavity and is bounded by the pelvic bones. It contains the urinary bladder, reproductive organs, and parts of the intestines
Abdominopelvic cavity
the combined abdominal and pelvic cavities. It encompasses all the structures located within both the abdominal and pelvic regions
ventral cavity
a larger body cavity located on the anterior (front) side of the body. It includes the thoracic cavity and the abdominopelvic cavity, housing many vital organs.
