Body balance - Homeostasis Flashcards
What is Homeostasis?
body’s ability to maintain a stable internal state despite changes to external environment (temp,Blood Ph)
how does the body maintain homeostasis?
1) receptors detect changes
-> receptors found in our sense organs
2) processing centre (BRAIN) recieves this info & coordinates a response
3) effectors then produce a response
what are some conditions that need to be kept constant
Body temp, blood pH,
what is negative feedback loop?
negative feedback is a response triggered by chamged conditions & serves to REVERSE the change.
how blood glucose levels are regulated? (TOO MUCH GLUCOSE)
TOO MUCH GLUCOSE
- (effector) - pancreas produces insulin
- insulin allows glucose to be absorbed by body cells
- blood glucose is reduced
how blood glucose levels are regulated? (TOO LOW)
what happens in diabetes?
Diabetes is a condition that happens when your blood sugar (glucose) is too high. It develops when your pancreas doesn’t make enough insulin or any at all, or when your body isn’t responding to the effects of insulin properly.
positive feedback loop?
