all participants were given the same cover story about a previous study which involved social isolation. there experimenter would leave the room each time after delivering this false information to the participants. first time was 4 mins and second time was 7 minutes leaving paricipants at a computer desk with also a mailbox for complaints about the test. all participants were debriefed afterwards

size of participants was 149 undergraduate students from VU University in Amsterdam.

mean age was 20.8 years
11 participants had already been removed because were suspicious about the study.

obedient = 76.5%
disobedient = 14.1%
whistle-blower = 9.4%
this show that predominantly people were obedient to the ‘authority’ figure as over 70% of participants did not disobey or even whistle-blow to research that was obviously unethical and could cause serous psychological harm.
