Boat Vol 3 Flashcards
What missions do PWCS do?
is the protection against terrorism acts, sabotage, espionage or subversive acts, and the preparation for, response to, and recovery from such an act.
PORT WATERWAYS AND COASTAL SECURITY DRUG INTERDICTION MIGRANT INTERDICTION DEFENSE READINESS LAW ENFORCEMENT
What is the difference between should and shall in vol 3?
SHOULD is a recommended action and
SHALL is a mandatory course of action
what is a TACTICAL MANEUVER ?
vessel on vessel high speed maneuvers operatations regardless of speed vs PWCS or NCVs
High speed is considered?
30+ knots
What is hooking a CHINE and why do you have to worry about this when conducting Tac Maneuvers?
when the engines are trimmed up and the pivot pt is further aft, a hard turn is maneuvered and the engine is out of the water and the boat is on its side which is the CHINE.
This could cause the boat to flip and cause death of serious injury
What is the TRIM policy?
Before making a hard turn the engines must be trimmed down.
Units deployed outside their AOR require permission from who in order to conduct PWCS?
PATCOM
How are PWCS LEVEL 1 UNITS classified based on what?
due to the amount of Limited access areas (LAA) and Security Zones with (MAW) mounted automatic weapons
These activities include: Certain dangerous cargo, high volume escorts on High capacity passenger vessels, military outload, fixed security, high value unit and high value assets escorts and High interest vessel boardings.
What is the order of competency for TAC?
TBCM, TCOXN, PBCM,PCOXN, PERSUIT MISSION COORDINATOR
When does the currency cycle end?
Jun 30 and Dec 31
To certify as TBCM, TCOXN, PBCM, or PCOXN, personnel shall be currently?
certified as BTM, at a minimum.
When engaged in Tac what 5 factors will you re- assess the Risk and Gar?
Basically the PEACE model changes: Team supervision deviation from OP plan fatigue wx change changes in event complexity
What is the Tac and Pursuit requirements? and what is not required?
Required : Gunner Restraint Device(s) Crew Restraint Device(s) Helmet Ballistic Goggles (Mission-specific if not a high speed boat.) Boat Crew Communications System(level 1 is required) Not required: Spare M127A1 parachute flares Warning Munitions (LA 51s) Running Gear Entangler
KIll cord may be switched to the what so it doesn’t interfere?
Boot
if any member of the crew is presented with an individual self-defense situation, that individual may react in what?
self-defense without the order from the TCOXN/PCOXN/PMC.
What is Step 1 tactics include? What tactic is used to force the vessel out without contact? command presence
proximity, appearance, directions and/or non-contact maneuvers to influence NCV actions.
Herding- maneuvers next to the contact of interest and follows him out w/o contact.
warning shots
What is level II? what must be granted and what distance?
Warning shots is 50 yds off the bow with a distance of 25 yds apart. LA 51 is considered warning shots.
disrupt
What is Level III?
Entanglers, sever or disconnect the fuel lines but this is a danger to the crew at high speeds. Use of boat hook is required for this.
What is a Step 3 tactic using your boat? disrupt
Shouldering- The goal of shouldering is to contact a NCV
with enough force to drive it in a new direction and prevent it from traveling on its intended course, or to compel compliance with orders to stop.
May lead to structural damage, capsizing, bodily injury. May revoke if need to due to wx or dynamic issues.
What is STEP IV? disable
- with the Remington 870 (copper sabot) shotgun shoot out the engines.
The train stops shall be set to stop the arc of motion no less ? from the cabin and/or fixed structures. The optimal setting allows for overlapping fields of fire with other MAW.
than six inches
Once MAW has been mounted who conducts pre fire checks and Safety function checks prior to getting UW?
Tac Coxn/ transit in half load
Due to wx or seastate that might cause harm to the gunner who must you notify in order to bring him in?
TACON
What are the Limited Access Areas? MSRO…and who establishes them?
a. Security Zone Safety Zone Restricted Water Front areas Naval Vessel Protection Zones (MSRO) Regulated Navigation Areas
b. The Coast Guard establishes and/or enforces several different types of LAAs. What is being protected, where it is located, and who is requiring the LAA will determine which type of LAA is used to assert control over the area.
What are the Security zone areas?
Patrol area
Boundary - where no vessel may cross
Sector A/B - sections that the vessels protect
Intercept zone - area that the Screen vessel protects
reaction zone -
What is a Naval Vessel Protection Zone?
500-yard regulated area of water surrounding U.S. naval vessels that is necessary to provide for the safety or security.
When within an NVPZ, no vessel or person is allowed within 100 yards of a large U.S. naval vessel without authorization.
what are the two security zone protection units?
reaction vessel - is in charge with backing up the SV. jobs include:
1. Patrol the reaction zone
2. Keep TOI under observation
3. Place VPIT under fire
4. stay in the FOF
screening vessel - intercepts the TOI to determine it’s intent. Detects, identifies and investigates the TOI
What is OPCON, TACON, and PATCOM?
OPCON(district CDR): developing plans that will use available resources to provide for the protection of a HVA.
TACON; oversight of assigned assets as well as providing
guidance as needed.
PATCOM- Onscene OPS
what is a VPIT?
poses an imminent threat of death or serious physical injury to individuals onboard HVA or SZPU, including but not limited to firing weapons, attempting to ram, bearing explosives, etc.
